About the Role
The Research Strategy Project Officer (RSPO) supports the delivery of the University’s research and innovation ambitions, with a focus on advancing the research infrastructure strategy. Working closely with the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Director of Major Research Investment, and colleagues across the University, the role provides high-quality project coordination, strategy development, and committee support. This position requires adaptability, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage complex initiatives that contribute to achieving the University's strategic research objectives.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing high-quality project coordination and administrative support for research infrastructure and other research strategy initiatives.
  • Drafting responses to consultation papers and coordinating stakeholder input to support senior executives in addressing key research-related issues.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders, including research infrastructure providers, to achieve collaborative goals.
  • Supporting committees with meeting coordination, minute-taking, and action item follow-ups, while contributing to a collaborative team culture.

Who we are looking for

You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders across all levels in a complex organisation. You will be highly organised, proactive, and adaptable, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, working both independently and collaboratively, and thriving in a dynamic environment that presents new challenges daily.

You will also have:

  • A tertiary qualification in a technical discipline such as Science, Engineering, or Biomedical fields, combined with relevant experience or an equivalent mix of education and training.
  • Experience in research within a university setting, research administration, and/or working with a technology platform.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality documentation while engaging confidently with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of the University of Melbourne’s research infrastructure capabilities and initiatives, alongside an understanding of national research policy settings and funding landscapes, such as NCRIS and ARC LIEF.

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
