About the Role
Australian BioCommons is seeking a Full Stack Developer to join the Australian Tree of Life (AToL) project, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at building digital infrastructure to support conservation, agriculture, and biosecurity decisions through molecular data. In this role, you will design and maintain a web-based portal, integrating it with various data sources and workflow engines to streamline genomics data application. Working in a dynamic environment with direct collaboration across multiple teams, this role is perfect for someone passionate about leveraging technology for life-changing impacts.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and deploy secure web applications by implementing best practices, preventing vulnerabilities, managing dependencies, and ensuring secure access and communication protocols.
  • Develop and manage data pipelines within and across existing systems, and build infrastructure to monitor and interrogate the status of data movement into and throughout the AToL platform.
  • Understand and apply UX best practices and a modern design language when developing front end systems.


Who we are looking for
The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, both verbal and written, along with the ability to work effectively in collaborative, agile teams. They will demonstrate flexibility in working with unfamiliar environments and code bases, while also excelling in delivering and documenting software solutions for stakeholders and end users.

You will also have:

  • A degree in a relevant discipline, such as software engineering, computer science, or bioinformatics, or extensive equivalent industry experience.
  • At least two years of experience as a full stack developer or a similar role.
  • Experience with CI / CD practices and principles – Ansible, CloudFormation, Jenkins, Octopus, and so on.
  • A broad understanding of backend and frontend languages and frameworks and experience in at least one frontend framework such as Angular.

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
